Summary
Any email you receive is first passed through the Spamchek engine. If it is determined that an email is a virus or spam, it is held back in the Spamchek quarantine area. All other emails are passed straight to you.

Technically
Technically speaking, Spamchek is inserted as an extra mail-relay in front of your own email-server(s), giving us the opportunity to scan your email for spam and virus and intercept as necessary to stop them before they get to your systems. This is done by adding/changing the DNS MX (Mail-eXchanger) records for your email-domain such that they point to Spamchek rather than your own mail-servers.

Quarantine
Withheld email is kept in a quarantine area to which your system administrator will have access. End-users receive regular listing of quarantined email allowing them to identify and release anything that might have been wrongly withheld.
